What Is Progression?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Progression measures how the force required to compress the suspension increases as the suspension moves through its travel. Greater progression allows the suspension to be softer at the beginning of the stroke and gradually firmer toward the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Would You Want More Progression?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
An ideal suspension setup is soft enough at the start to absorb small bumps and track the ground \u2013 which improves grip and control \u2013 while being firm enough at the end of the stroke to avoid harsh bottom-outs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bikes with limited progression force riders to choose: set the suspension soft for grip (but hit bottom too often), or firm for support (but lose comfort and traction on roots and rocks).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A bike with more progression gives you the best of both worlds \u2013 excellent small-bump compliance and strong bottom-out resistance.
