Which GALFER Rotor Should You Choose?
When it comes to perfect braking performance, your rotor plays a crucial role. GALFER offers two top-tier options – Wave and Shark. But which one is right for you? And what’s the difference?
At VETTA Bike Components, we tested both types of rotors for over half a year—on DH tracks, slow steep trails, and fast enduro sections. All tests were done on a ~25 kg E-Enduro bike.

Galfer Wave (€42,20 – €51,02)
A versatile rotor trusted for years due to its reliability and performance. Its patented wave design improves heat dissipation, reduces vibrations, and keeps weight low.
How it performs in real riding:
Wave rotors shine on slow, steep trails with limited airflow. In these conditions, they cool even better than Shark rotors and offer consistent braking power from top to bottom.
On faster trails, the Wave still holds its own. During long descents, we noticed better braking performance compared to MDR-P and SM-RT86 rotors.
Ideal OE upgrade:
Wave is a perfect drop-in upgrade for Shimano, SRAM, Magura, TRP, and other standard rotors—no adapters needed.

Galfer Shark (€92.11 – €110.41)
The newest rotor in the GALFER lineup, designed for maximum braking power, stiffness, and heat resistance. Its signature “shark fin” slots boost airflow and thermal stability.
Our impressions from the trails:
The Shark rotor needs speed to show its true potential. On fast DH runs and long enduro descents, it feels powerful, stable, and quiet.
On slower sections, it doesn’t cool as efficiently as the Wave and can overheat if airflow is lacking.
Compared to the Wave, the Shark has virtually no lever vibration, stronger bite, and quieter braking. We also noticed less pad wear.
💡 Shark is not a basic replacement rotor—it’s an upgrade, built for riders who demand the very best.
Our Verdict:
- If you ride fast trails, long alpine descents, or frequent bike parks, go for the Galfer Shark. It offers more stiffness, better cooling at speed, and the highest braking power.
- If you mostly ride slower, tighter trails with less speed and airflow, the Galfer Wave is the better choice. It’s lighter, more responsive at low speed—and half the price of the Shark. In these conditions, the Wave may actually outperform the Shark.
